The definition of family varies
Who is your family? Only you can answer this question.
Your family might be related to you by blood, marriage, remarriage, adoption, and friendships just to name a few.
The family dynamic
Each family member contributes to the well-being or the chaos of the group, regardless if they live in the house or not. The issues each person is dealing with directly impacts the whole family.
Families are made up of individuals with various personalities, perceptions, thoughts, behaviors, and communication styles. If some of these are unhealthy and/or clash, turmoil begins to appear.
In family counseling, not every member has to participate for change to happen. It is helpful, but not necessary. Just one person in the family must make a change, and the family system will automatically adapt.
Working as a unit
Throughout family therapy, everyone will gain a clearer understanding of each other.
Within each family session, I will ensure that each member has an opportunity to genuinely be heard as they share their story.
Each person’s needs will be addressed individually as well as how they influence the family system overall.
When participating in family therapy, everyone is my client. Your whole family will be treated with respect, dignity, and acceptance no matter how young or how old.
Tools for transformation
As a group, your family will agree on the goals you want to achieve. Your family will learn and utilize new skills to help transform the family structure into the one you envision.
I will listen, teach, guide, and support your family along its journey – at the same time, I will be respectful of each family member’s level of comfort.
Seeking growth, not perfection
No family is perfect. There’s always room for growth.
