Getting started is easy
Once we have scheduled your first session, I will email you a link to my client portal where you will be able to electronically sign my practice forms, documents, and policies. If your sessions will be conducted via telehealth, I will email you your specialized Zoom link. This link will be for all telehealth sessions. I will confirm your appointment one business day before your scheduled session via your preferred method of communication.
Arriving to your appointment
You might enter my office address into your GPS to ensure you are able to find it easily. Your GPS will indicate you have arrived at your destination when you are approaching the Lakeside Workspaces building. The parking lot usually has an ample amount of available parking spots for you to choose from.
As you open the glass door to the building, you will walk directly into the building’s lobby where you can choose to sit either on the grey leather couch or one of the four burnt orange chairs.
If you continue walking straight through the lobby, you will reach the building’s lounge. There you have a choice to either sit in a grey swivel chair located near the big TV or stools at the long high-top table.
While you wait for your appointment, please feel free to enjoy a complimentary hot beverages such as coffee, tea, espresso, cappuccino, and lattes located in the lounge. There also are vending machines inside the lounge if you would like to purchase a snack or two.
My office
I will welcome and guide you to my office, which is located on the far-right corner of the building. Having my office tucked away in the back of the building prevents unnecessary foot traffic outside of my office. Whenever I am in session, I place a white noise machine outside my office door, regardless if it is in person or telehealth.
My office is decorated with a warm and inviting color palette including teal, yellow, brown, and gold. The sunlight shines through the blinds and the low lights from the lamps create a relaxing environment for my clients to feel comfortable.
Your first session
At the beginning of your first session, I will formally introduce myself and explain how my career path has brought me to where I am today.
I will explain the limitations of confidentiality, the structure of my sessions, and answer any questions you might have.
I will ask you for your completed forms, which I emailed to you. If you accidentally forgot them, no worries; I have blank forms you can fill out during your session. I will explain the limitations of confidentiality, the structure of my sessions, and answer any questions you might have.
Once all the housekeeping items have been addressed, we will dive right into what brings you into therapy. I’ll ask questions to gain background information, but I strongly encourage my clients to tell me their story. I want to hear your story from you.
We will explore who you’ve been, who you want to be, and how you’ll get there. I will help you identify your strengths and how you can apply them to areas in your life you want to improve.
Your therapy session roadmap
When I start working with a new client, I highly recommend weekly sessions for at least six consecutive weeks, not including the initial session. This gives the client an opportunity to learn and discover weekly skills and tools to incorporate into their everyday lives.
At the end of each session, we recap and highlight the things discussed and learned within the session.
Homework is up to you. However, the quicker you make changes, the quicker you’ll change. I encourage my clients to commit to one thing they want to work on in between sessions.
Your journey is up to you, and I’m here to be by your side.
